Cleansing the Body for Life
One of the most important areas to consider is the area of hydration (or should I say dehydration). Some interesting facts:
Cucumber is very alkalinizing, refreshing and cleansing
Try grated ginger, mint leaves, thinly sliced fruit such as apple, peach, etc
you have your own healthy brand of flavoured water.
If you are not used to drinking water, then start with one glass a day and build it up to your ideal amount (see calculation above). After all, you would like to help your cells – not drown them!!
- Did you know that by the time you register that you are thirsty; your body is already 2 glasses of water short?
- Hunger is sometimes also a sign of dehydration, so the next time you feel peckish drink a glass of water.
- Just 1% dehydration results in a 5% decrease in thinking ability. This shows up as a cotton-wool/fuzzy head feeling.
- It is best to sip water during the day, rather than drinking a huge glass all at once.
- You can calculate how much water your body needs by reckoning 30 ml of water per kilogram of body weight. So for example, a 50 kg person would benefit by drinking about 1.5 litres of water a day.

- By drinking 30 – 60 minutes before a meal, you are helping your body prepare for the digestion process and you will be less hungry.
- Drink water when you arise in the morning as it helps to “break-fast”.
- Drink purified water and not tap water

And now for the area of nutrition
- This is an invitation to slowly let go of processed foods. If it is frozen, packaged, processed or altered in any way, rather choose the raw and healthy alternative.
- Reduce or eliminate – wheat and white flour products, dairy, sugar, non-herbal teas and coffee
- Have you found that you wake up with a flat stomach and go to bed with a bloated tummy? This may be an indication of a lack of digestive enzymes.
- Cool drinks – did you know that it takes 20 glasses of water to dilute 1 glass of cool drink?
The area of exercise
- If you are not doing any form of exercise, start with walking. All you need to do is a total of 105 minutes a week. This is 35 minutes 3 times a week or about 20 minutes for 5 times a week. It is really easy and fits around any schedule. Take the children and/or the dog too and you all benefit. KEEP IT FUN!!!
- A great tool to help you start, which is also good for lymph drainage, is a rebounder (mini-trampoline).
- While you are waiting in a queue or standing for a long time, stand up on your toes and move up and down for a few counts – this helps to get the blood flowing again and eases stiffness.
