The Holistic Fayre, Bothasig has proved to be an exciting addition to the Western Cape diary, building on the success of our 12 years with the addition of more exhibitors, talks, workshops & demonstrations, and that's just the beginning!
The Holistic Fayre
If you look the word up in the dictionary, you will find it is a “pseudo-archaic spelling of fair”. So the fayre is a pseudo-event.
The suggestion is that it will be a traditional medieval romp, with boisterous fun, pitchforking bumpkins over hay-carts, chasing wenches around the maypole and guessing how many gallons of mead the squire can drink.
Generally speaking, a fair is a gathering of stalls and amusements for public entertainment whereas fare is a range of food (Concise Oxford Dictionary, 1999).
However, the archaic (15th to 17th century) spelling fayre is used for both words as it lends an historic flavour.
