The Holistic Fayre
If you look the word up in the dictionary, you will find it is a “pseudo-archaic spelling of fair”. So the fayre is a pseudo-event.
The suggestion is that it will be a traditional medieval romp, with boisterous fun, pitchforking bumpkins over hay-carts, chasing wenches around the maypole and guessing how many gallons of mead the squire can drink.
Generally speaking, a fair is a gathering of stalls and amusements for public entertainment whereas fare is a range of food (Concise Oxford Dictionary, 1999).
However, the archaic (15th to 17th century) spelling fayre is used for both words as it lends an historic flavour.
