The first thing you must understand is that we do not seek converts. By “we” I mean those who follow Charles Findlay’s school of thought and by “converts” I mean those who have beliefs which can be placed here and there and often misplaced. Charles Findlay dealt in knowledge, he taught the unbelievers. Knowledge was the foundation of his life. It cannot be changed or placed here and there, it is an irrefutable commodity. The unbelievers who came to him were those who had sought and failed to find spiritual satisfaction. They were ready and the master appeared. Anyone who knows a little more than you do of real knowledge is your teacher or master.
When you come here you come of your own accord. You were not sent for. This is the best way because if you are ready for this ultimate teaching your inner conviction will tell you what you hear is truth – or you will reject it. And so we come to question the word truth. Ask the average person what it is and you will be told Keats said “Truth is beauty and beauty is truth”. So now we must find out what is beauty and so the endless stream of words flows without much meaning for anyone. What is truth? This is the very first thing to remember. Truth is What Is. When? Now – this moment. You know nothing beyond sitting and listening, and I know nothing beyond sitting and talking. Outside of these moments in either time or space, we can only conjecture that other things may be happening. So all we have is the moment, this moment of our immediate awareness, and if we can learn to move into each moment as it passes, we live life to its fullest, extracting the maximum experience from it and time is forever now, and nothing is missed.
I tell you this, not just for the telling of a fact, but in order that you will use what I am saying as an exercise to be practiced from this moment onwards, otherwise all is lost and I have cast those pearls before veritable swine. The freedom of choice is yours.
The next point I think that such a very newcomer to all this feast of knowledge should realise, is that in this world there is no evil. Conversely there is no such thing as good. What about the rapings and tortures that go on, you ask? Well, I ask you why label them “evil”?
You must understand, secondly, that it is your mind that reincarnates again and again, that it is your mind that evolves to the point that it merges with divine mind. I don’t know what divine mind is and please don’t cling to the expression as a goal to be attained. See your own mind as a drop of water and divine mind as the sea into which it slips. Where is there a goal or platform or resting place? A raping is a raping; the man who rapes does not think it “terrible”. Your mind does. He is right for him and you are right for you, but what IS right? Neither. The raping is what is. Therefore, if we scrub good and evil and all our other exotic adjectives from our vocabulary, we are left with the fact, the knowledge of the deed. For us it is important that we limit our thoughts to the facts as much as possible. In this way we deal always in truth, as we know it, and cease to clutter up our mind bodies with imaginative thought forms .
Overall the whole span of the teaching we endeavour to raise the tone of our thinking until we cease to think, but that is far into the future for you. However a good beginning is to cut out your adjectives, especially the word “evil”, because we can scarcely think of the word without imagining its connotations. There is knowledge and ignorance. Nothing else in this world. The rapist acts from ignorance of the laws of life.
I will tell you the laws of life. When Hiroshima was devastated what law was left, social, government, religious? No. There is only one law, the law of Cause and Effect and Hiroshima was the effect of a cause. When everything is gone that law still pertains. In the human being every thought is a cause and every feeling and action the effects of your own self-created causes.
To come back to your rapist, don’t you see that the punishment that must revert to him is far greater than any that a Court of Law can give him? This is the meaning of “Vengeance is Mine saith the Lord”. The Lord provided the law and it is up to us to live by it or flout it. I’m sure the Lord would be bored to extinction if he has to personally punish us for every one of our misdemeanours. We punish ourselves. Yes, I know it is also said that the wicked shall flourish but if you do me a great harm, you may think you get off scott free, but this is the material aspect of the matter because the wicked will stoop to all sorts of means to flourish, nevertheless, all must reap from their actions and bitter effects may come in other than material forms.
Apart from the law of Cause and Effect there are the other four. The law of love is devotion to duty. True freedom lies beyond thought. Man’s goal in life is to keep himself aligned within his three bodies. And the law of God is simply – whatever is - is God.
I don’t know any other goal in life and I cannot help you there, but our short life spans are all stages in our return journey and achieving alignment of your three bodies is the first milestone passed.
Yes, I believe there is an astral body and probably other bodies as well but at this point in our evolution we only have conscious control over our mental, personality and physical bodies.
Shall we recap? Truth is whatever you experience in every passing moment and if your mind is paying attention in that moment you will miss nothing and live in truth. There is no state of evil, only a state of ignorance, every degenerate person is God wrapped in darkness – who therefore would dare to point the holier-than-thou finger? Understanding is desperately needed in the world, not disapproval. God repays through his law of Cause and Effect and if the average man suffers he suffers from ignorance. Not punishment.
The five laws of life are very profound. Cause and Effect is easy to understand. Love has to be differentiated from emotional preferences. Real freedom lies in a still mind. Our goal is self-preservation in the form of alignment. And whatever is – even your rapist – is God.
From the book you know we have 3 bodies and we have to so consciously live in these three as to eventually unite with a fourth, the soul body, which is as far as our knowledge takes us meantime.
