Winslow Schalkwyk interview with Sibylle Fourie
This month Winslow Schalkwyk, from Words and Wisdom, interviewed Sibylle Fourie who is fast becoming well known for her Journey work
Interview with Sibylle Fourie
Welcome to “Words and Wisdom”.
I had the honour of interviewing Sibylle Fourie. Her insights and spiritual journey is not only inspiring but also a testament to that healing power that flows through all of us. In this interview Sybille talks about intuition, The Journey by Brandon Bays, her Reiki path and how a “second chance” can change your whole life…
Tell us about Sibylle?
I was born in Somerset West in the Western Cape in December of 1964.
I love wildlife, photography, the beach and ocean, spending time with great friends, visiting new places (travel) and being with my children (Christopher age 15 and Yvonne age 13). I love the outdoors, camping, fun parks like Disney World, reading, music and I love my work (it is a privilege to do it).
What is your favourite childhood memory?
My favourite memory of my childhood is the 4 years I spent on the various keelboat yachts my Dad owned in that time. When I was in Std 8 I was part of an all-girl crew that sailed all the club races in Gordon’s Bay and in Std 9, my favourite yachting year, I skippered the boat with my own crew for the entire sailing season and came second for series of races. I was only 16 at the time. It was a fabulous, carefree, fun time and sailing was my passion. I still enjoy it immensely, just don't get out onto the ocean often enough at present!!
What is your healing ability and how would you describe it?
My healing abilities are based very much on my intuition - which was always very strong, yet ignored or not trusted for a long time. The more I use and rely on my intuition, the stronger and more accurate it is becoming. I fully believe that it is not me that is doing the healing work, I am just a channel and so I rely on the guidance I receive through my intuition and by staying detached and receptive to the information coming in. (I think that answers already two of your questions!!)
What is your definition of intuition?
My definition of intuition is that it is a gut feeling or inner knowing. It will show up in different ways for people and that is great, the main thing to do is to TRUST and LISTEN to it!!
When did your healing journey start?
My journey into healing started in the year 2000 when I was seriously contemplating suicide. I put out a call for help and through the intervention of my homeopath and an intuitive Reiki healer, I got a second chance at life.
Second chance…?
After my call for help, I had a life-saving "coincidence". I was out walking in a new suburb we had moved into and knocked on the door of this house to ask a question. The reason I chose this house is that it had paving stones in the shape of feet that led to the front door and it seemed like a friendly place to enquire. When the gentleman opened the door, he looked at me and said "I don't know why I need to to tell you this but you need to read a book called The Journey by Brandon Bays. I have just read it, it is amazing and I am supposed to tell you about it now. By the way, how can I help you?" I bought the book, read it from cover to cover in one afternoon, cried most of the way through and knew that I had found an answer to my prayer to heal and live again.
What about The Journey touched you?
The key thing that touched me in The Journey was that I was discovering my own answers and wisdom and so the information I received was real and of great value for me. Because the results become visible and tangible in a short time due to the cellular healing nature of the work, it reinforced that the process has worked and has immense value. Also, it is a very personal experience and no two processes are ever the same! I like the idea of an adventure and a discovery and The Journey promises that every single time. My philosophy is that insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Well, The Journey is about changing results due to changing behaviours, thinking, limiting beliefs, etc and I love that!
How has your experiences shaped who you are today?
My experiences have helped me in the sense that I now am doing the work I love to do - I don't call it work as it is my passion. It helped me quit my corporate career of 23 years as an optometrist and to start this business I now have where I can help others gain a better quality of life - help them get their second chance! My children see me now happy, motivated and having fun instead of being depressed, sad, angry and lethargic. There is nothing else I want to do with my life when it comes to "work". I truly love my life and am grateful for every minute that I have.
Are you familiar with the term "wounded healer", if yes, would you describe yourself as one?
The wounded healer applies to myself and a lot of us that find ourselves in this type of work, in the sense that one can relate to people at a very real level only when it has been experienced by yourself. Having the challenges in my life that I have had, has made it easier for me to relate to the people I see and interact with. It also makes it easier not to judge or criticise, as their pain is often a mirror for the pain that we have already experienced or are experiencing.
Please give us some insight into your Reiki attunements and journey.
My Reiki Journey took place over the period of a year as we had 3 levels to complete before still going on a retreat before we could qualify. I was amazed at how many shifts occurred within myself and my body seemed to detox a lot, especially after receiving the different attunements. It was a very experiential course and I enjoyed it immensely.
How would you describe the Reiki "Attitude of Gratitude"?
For me the Attitude of Gratitude is to be grateful for everything I have as this allows more to flow in. Whatever happens, I am grateful for it as it either is here to show me an aspect of myself, to teach me something, for me to enjoy or for me to help someone else with. It is about being present, loving what is and saying thank you.
How do you keep your spiritual batteries charged?
I keep my spiritual battery charged by meditation, taking time out for me and just doing the work I so love to do - there is no other work that I want to do. When one wakes up excited and inspired every day, the batteries are charged already!!
Why, in your opinion, do you feel it is easier for us to give power to our shadows instead of investing on our light?
It is easier to embrace the shadow than the light as we are afraid of our own power. We intrinsically have a knowing of how powerful we truly are and this scares us. Only when we can experience our power in small doses that are comfortable, do we become able to allow more of our true selves, our light, to shine and be seen. It takes courage to do this as it is not the norm in society with all its glamour, illusion and conditioning. When our inner worth is based on things outside of us (be it people, material things, etc), then we lose sight of who we truly are and this saddens us. It is in times like these that we need to connect with our Real Self, so that we can re-align with who we truly are and our value.
What, in your opinion, is our greatest challenges as human beings?
To remember that we are not only this body - we are so much more.
That emotions and feelings are safe and to rather face them and clear up the issues they reveal rather than escaping or trying to run away from them.
That the core of who we all are is the same - it is the core of Love - this Presence that is always there, whether we are aware of it or not.
Thank you Sibylle.
We all have our own stories to tell and our own paths to walk. Sometimes the “right” book at the “wrong” time can point you in the direction of your healing. When you put out that call for help, listen, your angels and guides might be sending the answer to you in ways you did not expect it. There are times in life when your intuition is the only guide that you have, your internal compass leading you to Absolute Love and that Divine Light. As Sibylle said; “…the main thing is to TRUST and LISTEN to it.”
Peace and Blessings
